British Methodists Forbid Interfaith Use of Their Buildings

The British Methodist Church decided on July 3 to retain a policy that allows non-Christians to use its buildings only for social purposes. The 25-year-old policy was confirmed during a meeting of the British Methodist Conference in London.

"So I have to say to a Muslim toddler group that meets regularly in my church, ‘Come in and play but don't pray,'" said the Rev. John Vincent, a Methodist pastor, according to the United Methodist News Service. Others praised the poicy, though, saying that Hindus, Muslims, and Sikhs had told the Methodists that they believed only Christian worship should take place in Christian sanctuaries.
