    St. John's Announces New Rector

The Rev. Katherine H. Jordan is the new rector of St. John's Episcopal Church in Beltsville, senior warden Norm Jacob announced on September 10. Ms. Jordan will preach her first sermon at St. John's on All Saints Sunday, November 2. She replaces the Rev. Nancy J. Noall, who has been serving as priest-in-charge at St. John's.

"In my previous life I was an academic librarian," Ms. Jordan reveals in a biographical sketch released by the church. A native of Ohio, she majored in English at Wells College in Aurora, New York, and received a master's degree in library science at the University of Pittsburgh in 1964. She also spent two years in Ethiopia with her husband, Robert Jordan, who is an academic librarian. The couple have a daughter who lives in the D.C. area, and Mr. Jordan has four grown children from a previous marriage. After serving in libraries in Boston and Washington for twenty years, Ms. Jordan entered Virginia Theological Seminary in Alexandria; she graduated in 1992. She served as deacon and assistant to the rector at St. John's Church, Arlington, before becoming associate rector at St. Philip's Church in Laurel. Among her responsibilities there, she has coordinated pastoral care, the youth ministry, and newcomer incorporation.
