Online Male Homoerotic Fiction Recommendations

by Guest Reviewers

This directory is maintained by Dusk Peterson, who writes male homoerotic fiction.

This site, which was founded by mdbl, is now Webmastered by Dusk Peterson. I maintain my own online male homoerotic fiction recommendations site, Buried Treasure, but Private Parlor will continue to post visitors' reviews of their favorite M/M stories: original yaoi, original slash, and original gay fiction and erotica. Take a look around to see what sorts of stories have been recommended in the past, and then, if you like, submit a review for consideration. You may also e-mail me with questions or comments about the site.

Latest update, as of January 2010.

Visitors should be aware that some of the sites linked at Private Parlor are intended for mature readers and viewers. But not nearly as many as some of you would like.

Looking for M/M stories in print or in e-book format? Check out The Slash Skinny: Publishing News and Market Report on Original Slash. In addition, fiction by Dusk Peterson is available.

: Mission Statement :

(mdbl's original mission statement from 2001.)

I find it hard to commit myself to reading a fic unless I know a little something about it, or at least whether or not it's worth the time. Fic recommendation sites help me to decide if I want to read the fic, but there were never any recommendation sites out there specifically for original fics. Now here's a page for people to gather and find original fics, or to recommend some really good original fics that they've read.

: mdbl's Updates :

Updated 12/14/2006 :
Important Announcement : This Winter of 2006-2007, Private Parlor will be moving to a new owner and home.
I will be closing my site and moving onto other endeavors in life, and Dusk Peterson has generously offered to host and maintain the Private Palor at the site Love in Dark Settings. Thank you so much for your help, Dusk. I'm very happy and excited that you will be continuing this site, and I know that with the exposure that you can provide for it, it will grow into an even better recommendation site for good original m/m fiction. I will post the necessary links and redirection page when the new site is up and running, so be on the lookout for the new address and site so you can update your bookmarks and links.

11/29/2006 :
I've updated the link to TotemWolfie's fic in the Supernatural section. Special thanks to sofie for informing me!
3/9/2006 :
Added two new recs to the Supernatural section, and two new recs to the Sci-Fi section. A very special thanks to Briel for reviewing Pathfinder, Entwined, and Vicarious Pain! I've also added my own review for Heretic, as well as updated the reviews of Ann Somerville's stories in the Fantasy and Fiction sections. Please take the time to send the authors feedback after reading!
10/23/2005 :
Sahari's website has been down for some time now, and Ryuuta was kind enough to offer an alternate link to the Tiger Prince under the Fantasy section. Thank you Ryuuta for helping to keep the site up to date.
7/18/2005 :
The site url has changed to http://mdbl.artbycas.com/rec/. Please update your bookmarks and links to the new url. I'm sorry I didn't have a chance to warn anyone that the site was moving, but I wasn't informed of the move until after the fact.
Also, added a new rec to the Fantasy section. Please read and enjoy Raz Nic an t-Saoir's story Upon A Time Undone. It is a very wonderful story of classic fairy tales with a twist.
7/4/2005 :
Added a new rec to the Fiction section. Special thanks to vspirit for recommending Remastering Jerna. Sorry I wasn't able to edit your review down at all, but if I needed it to balance out the length of my own babbling review.
6/11/2005 :
Removed When You Were Mine from the Fiction section. Thank you to Tarayith for helping to keep the links up to date by informing me that the author Kouri has removed all of her original fiction from her website after the story was plagerized, and there are no plans to put it back up or archive it on a different website. It's really a shame that that had to happen to Kouri.
4/29/2005 :
Added a new guest rec to the Fiction section. Special thanks to Janette for recommending Gravity of Love!
3/27/2005 :
Added two new recs to the Fiction section. Special thanks to David Nunes da Silva for recommending Tripper! Also, check out the wonderful murder mystery that I just got done reading (again), First Person Perspective! Please take the time to send the authors feedback.
3/11/2005 :
Added a new guest rec to the Fantasy section. Special thanks to fei-yen for recommending Treasure!
2/21/2005 :
Removed the guest review of Trapdoor per the author's request. Also updated the status of The Administration to Complete, from an anonymous tip. Thank you!
1/21/2005 :
Added a new guest rec to the Fantasy section. Special thanks to Briel for submitting another recommendation, this time for Ephebian Paradise! I wouldn't mind if you keep submitting them; it helps me add to the site and make it even better. Now if only I had time to read the new recommendations, but homework dictates otherwise.
1/9/2005 :
Added another new guest rec to the Fantasy section. Special thanks to Tarayith for recommending Kei's Gift! I would start reading it right now, but the first day of spring semester starts bright and early at 8:30 tomorrow, so I'll have to wait until tomorrow evening. Thank you again!
1/3/2005 :
I came back from vacation and was happy to find a couple of new recs waiting for me. Added one new guest rec to the Fantasy section, and one to the Sci-Fi section. Special thanks to the person who's recommendation of The God Eaters kept me up all night reading, and another special thanks to the person who recommended Mount Robillard, which I'm off to read right now. To answer your question, yes, if you would like to take the time to recommend a number of individual stories that an author has written, please do. I'm sorry it took some time before I was able to update the site with your reviews. Also, thank you to the person who sent me the updated link for Magic Rat's A Strange Place in Time! I really appreciate your help in keeping this site up to date. Almost forgot, but I added a new Supernatural Fiction section, and moved the supernatural fics to that page so everything is properly organized. Enjoy!
12/16/2004 :
Added three new guest recs to the Fiction section. Very special thanks to Briel who did some great reviews of The Quicken Tree, Immortal Nights, and Trapdoor! Especially since they've been listed on the Extras page for quite some time now, waiting for someone to review them.
10/20/2004 :
Added a new guest rec to the Fantasy section. Special thanks to the person who recommended Divinitas!
10/3/2004 :
Added a new guest rec to the Fiction section. Special thanks to the person who recommended The Sundering Saga! I spent all day not doing my homework because I couldn't stop reading that fic when I got the recommendation for it this morning. (I also put it in Fiction, rather than Sci-Fi, as I consider it to be more supernatural fiction than anything else, so Fiction is closest to that.)
4/8/2004 :
Added a new rec to the Fiction section, and one guest rec to the Fantasy section. Special thanks to the valore for recommending The Howling Series, and to Persephone aka Rosa for recommending Bloodraven!
Also, I added a half-assed rec to the Sci-Fi section, because I found out that Cassiel had put her fic Entwined back online, which I had recced long ago, but I took my rec down since she'd taken the fic down, and now I don't have it anymore.
1/20/2004 :
Added one guest rec to the Fantasy section. Special thanks to Fiona Glass for recommending A Strange Place in Time!
11/25/2003 :
Added one guest rec to the Sci-Fi section. Special thanks to ryuuta for recommending The Administration!
10/14/2003 :
Added two guest recs, one to the Fiction section, and the other to the Sci-Fi section. Special thanks to Janette for recommending When You Were Mine and Mother. Removed the link to a fic that is no longer available for free.
9/4/2003 :
Added a guest rec to the Fantasy section. Special thanks to the person who recommended For Lord and Land. Also updated all the links, marked broken links, and removed links and reviews for fics that the author has taken down.
6/7/2003 :
Added a guest rec to the Fiction section. Special thanks to the person who recommended and reviewed The Armori.
2/24/2003 :
Added a new rec to the Sci-Fi section. Enjoy and drool over Janette's new fic, Changing Fortunes.
1/29/2003 :
Added a guest rec to the Fantasy section. Special thanks to the person who recommended and reviewed Wizard and Warrior.
11/7/2002 :
Added two new recs to the Fiction section. Lost Along the Way is a fic I recently found and enjoyed, and finally someone sent me a review of a romance fic called Triangle. A million thanks to whoever sent the review!
8/14/2002 :
Added a new rec in the Fantasy section. Why, finally after so long? Because the author finally got a page put up. So please go read and enjoy Inochi as much as I have.
