"If you want to save yourself from this wild place, you must go another way," he replied, watching me weep. "This beast you're crying over lets no one pass by – she'll bar your way so that she can kill you. She's so vicious and cruel that her greedy appetite is never satisfied; after eating, she's hungrier than before. I think, therefore, that you'd better follow me. I'll guide you through a place where spirits shriek in despair at their torment, and after that, you'll see spirits who are willing to be burned by fire because they hope to reach the place where the joyful spirits live. And then, if you want to continue your journey upwards, I'll leave you with a spirit who's a worthier guide than I am. For the Emperor who rules above won't let me enter his city, since I once was rebel to his law."
