The focus of the series is on friendship. Right or Right also addresses male/female romance.
The stories are set largely during wartime. Because of this, the stories sometimes address the topic of abuse, including violence against children and sexual violence.
Violence in the series (which can be severe) is primarily offstage, but some brief violence occurs onstage. Other than kissing, there are no onscreen depictions of sex, but indirect references are made to offscreen activities.
