The Preston Project* What is the Preston Project?
The purpose of the Preston Project is to collect, preserve, and disseminate
information on the author John Preston. At present, the project has three
goals:
1) To collect documents and remembrances related to Preston. All materials collected by the project are offered to the Preston Archive and the Leather Archives & Museum. The Preston Project is not affiliated with those institutions.
DO YOU HAVE MEMORIES OF JOHN PRESTON? And would you be willing to share them with others? The Preston Project collects written remembrances of Preston for publication at this site. The Preston Project would be interested in hearing from you if you had a chance to meet or even just glimpse John Preston. Brief anecdotes are fine; so are longer reminiscences. Whether your memories are positive or negative, and regardless of whether you knew Preston for a long time or simply heard him give a talk once, please contact this site if you would be willing to have your memories published online. If you find it hard to collect your thoughts all in one place and would prefer to be interviewed by e-mail, just contact the Preston Project to make arrangements. And if you would feel more comfortable submitting an audio record of your remembrances – a cassette tape or an audio file, for example – that's fine too. DO YOU HAVE DOCUMENTS, RECORDINGS, OR IMAGES THAT ARE BY OR ABOUT JOHN PRESTON? The Preston Project also collects copies of documents that are by or
about Preston. For example:
Letters.
Photographs.
Please also visit the What's Needed page to see specific items that the project is seeking. HOW TO SUBMIT TO THE PRESTON PROJECT To submit remembrances or text to the Preston Project, e-mail this site. Please don't send attachments; instead, send plain text within the body of an e-mail. (You can simply copy and paste if your text is already in a file.) If you have a scan of a document or image, e-mail this site first to get permission to send it. (Sometimes the editor has to clear out her mailbox before receiving large files.) E-mail submissions are preferred, but if you have a photocopy of a document or something else that can't be easily submitted by e-mail, you can send it through regular mail. Copies are fine; you don't need to send the original item. However, if you're getting rid of extra belongings in your life and wish to send the original item, the Preston Project will donate it to the Preston Archive. OTHER WAYS IN WHICH YOU CAN HELP THE PRESTON PROJECT Suggestions of links to online information related to John Preston are welcome. Spread the news about the Preston Project. If you belong to an organization whose members might have known John Preston, send an e-mail around or write an item for your newsletter. During the last five months of 2004, it took approximately two hundred dollars to run the Preston Project. This covered the cost of Website hosting, photocopying, and buying older periodicals that Preston was known to write for. (These periodicals are not available through interlibrary loan. Buying them cost much less than an out-of-town archival trip would have cost.) The project's 2005 expenses are expected to be a great deal higher since the editor hopes to visit archives holding materials related to Preston. If you would to make a financial donation to the Preston Project, please write for more information. Please send comments, questions, or suggestions about this site, as well as submissions to the Preston Project, to one of the following addresses. E-mail: [Turn on JavaScript to read, or write to prestonprojectATrushpost.com, replacing AT with the appropriate symbol.] E-mail is preferred. If you wish to send something that can't easily be e-mailed, please e-mail the editor for information on where to send it. |
