Reviews of The Breaking:
"The series explores the range of human emotions, from love to madness, all within the confines of a dungeon shut away below the 'lighted world.'"
Five-star review by Catana at Smashwords.
"The characters are enticing and the whole story is beautifully written."
Five-star review by Diana Kay at Smashwords.
Reviews of Rebirth:
"The setting isn't like anything I've seen before, and the relationship between the two main characters is complex and fascinating."
Four-star review by Tara Stone at Goodreads.
"This is very dark fiction with an overriding sense of healing and hope, and the characters are unlike any that you've ever met in your reading."
Five-star review by Catana at Goodreads.
Review of Transformation:
"I think this dungeon must be low on funding, because it's woefully understocked all they've got are whips and racks, and the racks are constantly malfunctioning."
Four-star review by Tara Stone at Goodreads.
>>> Life Prison
* High Bookshelf. Site content label.
Review of Life Prison:
"Seriously confusing, but deep at the same time."
Three-star review by Pradlee at Goodreads. Includes major spoilers for the novella.
>>> Waterman
* High Bookshelf. Site content label.
Review of Waterman Omnibus 2010:
"The underlying theme of the stories is inherited power relationships, the effect on individuals of being unable to fit into the established hierarchies, and the wisdom of learning from those below you."
Four-star review by Catana at Goodreads.
"The theme of institutionalized Master/slave and Master/liegeman service gives a strong groundwork to the stories. While the theme itself is nothing new in this type of stories, the way the characters put their own spin on the service is what makes the story as good as it is."
Four-star review by Ishako Domino at Smashwords.
>>> Loren's Lashes
* High Bookshelf. Site content label.
Review of Edgeplay in Mayhill:
"Not a cliche in sight, and the characters are realistic enough to jump off the page."
Jean Roberta, author and BDSM book reviewer.

"Their mistake." ¶ The beginning of a new serialized leather

A new edition of Love in Dark Settings Omnibus is published,
and an update is posted to the story recommendations at Buried Treasure.
The details:
Need to know which stories feature platonic feelings, gay attraction, mature content, etc.? Read these explanations of the labels used below: What is the Main Bookshelf? | What is the High Bookshelf?
>>> Love in Dark Settings Omnibus
* Main Bookshelf and High Bookshelf. Site content label. Collected writings.
A new edition has been published of Love in Dark Settings Omnibus, the zipped HTML e-book collecting all of my online fiction, nonfiction, and fiction recommendations. The price is the same as last year, but there are half a million new words of fiction, for a total of well over a million words. I've no idea how many words the nonfiction is; it's too many words for me to count.
The collection includes the latest Loren's Lashes serialization (parts one to three of Edgeplay in Mayhill), so if you want to read ahead in that series, you have the choice of buying either Loren's Lashes Omnibus or buying the stories from all my series in Love in Dark Settings Omnibus.
* High Bookshelf. Site content label. A historical fantasy series set in a land where the psychologists wield whips.
Transformation. The Eternal Dungeon, a royal prison where criminals are transformed, has lost its leadership. The duty of returning the dungeon to normal falls on two Seekers (torturers) who are already burdened with their own problems. One Seeker is struggling to understand why an old love affair continues to gnaw at him. The other Seeker is faced with his greatest challenge: whether to risk that which is most precious to him in order to save his own abuser.
New online fiction parts one through four:
The Balance. The workers in the Eternal Dungeon have always expressed contempt toward the Hidden Dungeon in the neighboring kingdom of Vovim, whose torturers abuse prisoners without restraint. But the balance between mercy and hell is not so clear as might be thought in either dungeon, and now that balance is about to tip. Only the strength of love and integrity will determine the paths of two Seekers whose fortunes are bound together.
In addition, an excerpt from the upcoming novel On Guard has been posted.
>>> Loren's Lashes
* High Bookshelf. Site content label. In the rural town of Mayhill, population 32,000, leather life is a little different.
New e-book (zipped HTML edition):
Loren's Lashes Omnibus. A collection of all the Loren's Lashes stories.
New online serialization parts one through three:
Edgeplay in Mayhill. In 1965, Loren was initiated into the mysteries of leather by a motorcyclist passing through his isolated Midwestern town. Twenty years later, he is owner of the town's gay bar, which serves as a leather bar after hours. He is a master, trained to control and discipline men. . . . If only he could convince other leathermen of this fact.

* Fiction recommendations. Site content label.

>>> Turn-of-the-Century Toughs Bibliographies
* Web directory.
Islanders and Watermen of the Chesapeake Bay has been updated. Also, the homosexuality section of Masculinity, Crime, and Everyday Life in Victorian and Edwardian Times has been updated. REVIEWS
>>> Master/Other
* High Bookshelf. Site content label.
Review of Leather, Licking and Lawnmowers:
"I really loved this short little book, and I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys dark sexual comedy with principles and heart. You don't have to be gay, and you don't have to be in the BDSM or the leather scene to enjoy these stories. . . .
"9.75/10 simply because I wanted more."

GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS AND UPCOMING FICTION
>>> This has been an interesting year
I was seriously ill and worsening by the day this spring, hence my frantic attempt in March and April to get all of my stories posted. I'm stable now, thankfully. I'm still planning to post all my fiction online (life is too short), but it's now taking me longer than before to edit and lay out my stories. So I'm switching over to serializing my novels by chapter rather than by part, which will give me more time to work on upcoming stories. Notices of weekly installments will be posted at my duskpeterson blog.
(Oh, and my literary executor has my unfinished stories in HTML format, in case I should get worse again.)
>>> Coming next

GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS AND UPCOMING FICTION
>>> Blurbs, cover art, and excerpts
I've posted new blurbs, cover art, and excerpts from upcoming stories in the following series: The Three Lands, Darkling Plain, Prison City, and Master/Other (including Leather in Lawnville).
They are all linked from the Love in Dark Settings Press page, where you can also find links to previously posted blurbs and excerpts.
In addition, the Main Bookshelf cover art gallery has been updated.
>>> New ePub e-book editions
I'm in the process of converting my entire backlist into ePub e-books. Some of the e-books will have bonus material about the creation of the stories.
If you're not familiar with the format, ePub is the MP3 of the e-book world: a common e-book format that can be read by many e-readers and mobile devices. Since an ePub e-book is simply a bunch of HTML files collected together in a special way with a few other files, you can easily read ePub e-books in your Web browser, as well as in e-readers, mobile devices, etc. More information is available in Easy Ways to Read ePub E-books.
My first ePub e-book is now online: Night Shadow. If you plan to read my e-books at any time in the future, I'd appreciate it if you'd download this free e-book. If you encounter any problems with the formatting or layout, please let me know so that I can correct them now, before I publish more e-books.
>>> Word counts and progress report
For those of you interested in my past progress in story writing, I've posted the records and charts I keep for my own information. You can also track there what the current status is of my stories in progress.
>>> List of published writings
Just a reminder that I periodically update two pages: my list of published writings, positions, and honors: divided by date and my list of published writings, positions, and honors: divided by subject. The first list is a timeline of my writing career; the earliest reference is to my pre-school years.
>>> Coming next
Three novels in the Three Landsseries are currently at the editing stage, as are a number of works of short fiction on the Main Bookshelf and the High Bookshelf. I hope to publish all of them this year. As far as composition is concerned, I'm currently working on various works on the High Bookshelf.
